About Us

N. OAKLAND COUNTY CHAPTER HISTORY

Our chapter was started in 1982 with a group of seven volunteers with Fred Roeser as Chairman.

The first banquet was held in the spring of 1982 at Deer Lake Athletic Club where it continues to be held every year.

In 2004 we developed a relationship with Bass Pro Shops in Auburn Hills. The partnership has flourished. We now have a booth at their Spring Fishing Classic and at the fall Hunting Classic. With their support we now celebrate “August is Ducks Unlimited Month” at Bass Pro Shops.

By “tweaking” our sponsor program we have grown to more than sixty sponsors. In recognition of these participants we have a Sponsor Shoot event every fall at the Detroit Gun Club.

From its modest beginning the chapter has grown to become one of the leading chapters in Michigan. We now have more than 25 active committee members. The chapter has many events throughout the year.

In 2004 our chapter was recognized as one of the top 100 chapters in the nation and has remained as such every year since then.

Since its inception the N. Oakland County Chapter has sent to Ducks Unlimited well over one million dollars to provide funding for Ducks Unlimited’s conservation work.

We are the only chapter in Michigan to be in the Top 100 all seven years for the “Wetlands for Tomorrow” national campaign.

In 2010 Ducks Unlimited gave Oakland County Parks $105,000 to complete their purchase of 168 acres for Independence Oaks County Park - North (Addition).

Since our inception in 1982 our chapter has sent Ducks Unlimited well over one million dollars, equating to more than 4,000 acres of wetland habitat conservation.
